the great british warlock

Some terrible drawings and some terrible drawings covered up by some wonderful 1970s Marvel comic covers, chiefly Warlock comics, or those featuring the celestial one. Many of these sell for large sums of money and as such may never be mine, but aged, musty original comics printed on cheap stock complete with adverts for Hostess Fruit Pies, Basketballs and BB Guns etc. (which, incidentally, were incredibly exotic to an impressionable young child from the UK), are so much more preferable to those collected in newly-printed glossy, shiny hardback books.

the universe?

More red and black ink heads. Shortly before drawing this, I had just bought a new TWSBI Diamond 580 and filled it with red De Atramentis document ink to try something a little different.

federa vecia

A sketch of the house (chalet?) we stayed in during our summer holiday in the Dolomites. I was attempting a longer, more complicated subject than I might usually draw, and I had also hoped to continue to develop my use of watercolour, something I'd been working on at the start of the holidays. I was very disappointed with the result. The perspective is a little shaky, the colours I used weren't as I 'saw' them and it was such a blisteringly hot day that the paint dried up almost immediately as it went onto the page making it very difficult to create seamless blends of watercolour (this is most visible in the trees on the right). My favourite bit is the uncoloured section on the right of the page – a study of the steps leading up to the gate and the trees and valley on the other side of the road. Clearly I need to practice drawing buildings more regularly...
