your agoniser, please

First attempts at drawing Spock and Kirk for a Star Trek TOS project I have planned. Despite the unfinished look to some of these, I was really happy with the results and love this double spread. I even sneaked in a quick green alien from The Corbomite Maneuver.

ears are weird

More University Challenge people. Despite vowing not to return to this again, the contestants on UC are a good source of reference for drawing heads. I like the drawing of Cooper (left hand page, bottom right) but the addition of watercolour was a little heavy-handed and the drawing looked better without it. The guy with a hand in front of his face is also a favourite of mine. There's a lightness of touch to the hand which I'm really pleased with.

mother

I like this double spread. There's a good likeness of my mother here along with some interesting studies of various University Challenge people where I experimented with adding a watercolour wash over the black and red ink drawings. Onwards and upwards!

Some University Challenge people and an amusing anecdote about bees.

edith wharton?

A third, final, successful portrait of Darren Etienne, a picture of Ellie looking like a cross between Katherine Ryan and an advert for the NSPCC, and some smaller studies of University Challenge contestants in purple and black.

the un-wide face issue

Two Darrens, an Emma, an aborted Bob, a single solitary purple pen, a brace of Jeannies and an old man in a hat. Sorry, the beautiful visage that is Richard Walker's face.

my crumpets have collapsed

Portrait of Briony (which I was able to use with a little editing), a couple of unfinished Toksvigs, an absolute nightmare of a Jon, and a couple of failed Anthonys all from this year's Great British Bake-Off.

the power of bake-off

Decent portraits of Noel and Prue from The Great British Bake-Off, some aborted drawings of various contestants from the same show, and incomplete comic book checklist scattered across the right hand page, and a few more Warlock covers.

the great british warlock

Some terrible drawings and some terrible drawings covered up by some wonderful 1970s Marvel comic covers, chiefly Warlock comics, or those featuring the celestial one. Many of these sell for large sums of money and as such may never be mine, but aged, musty original comics printed on cheap stock complete with adverts for Hostess Fruit Pies, Basketballs and BB Guns etc. (which, incidentally, were incredibly exotic to an impressionable young child from the UK), are so much more preferable to those collected in newly-printed glossy, shiny hardback books.

the universe?

More red and black ink heads. Shortly before drawing this, I had just bought a new TWSBI Diamond 580 and filled it with red De Atramentis document ink to try something a little different.
